The Desert Eagles (often referred to as D'eagles or DEs) are a pair of powerful semi-automatic pistols which kill in 2-3 shots (each shot = 2 bullets at once) and fire quickly. Their bullets fly rather quickly but have a strong arc, making them awkward to aim with over distances. It is also known that the bullets would spread out and lose a lot of damage over long distances, which makes it poor for long range.
It is highly accurate however, as it is completely unaffected by movement inaccuracy and bink, allowing users to be extremely agile while firing this weapon, making it a formidable offensive weapon.
[edit] History in Soldat
Up until version 1.0.4b, only one Desert Eagle could be wielded. With 1.0.4b, a second Desert Eagle was added so two bullets could be fired at once. (The two-projectile function is unmodifiable and unique to weapon 1 for weapon mods.)
[edit] As a real life weapon
The Desert Eagle was created in 1979, when Magnum Research Inc. was founded, with the idea of creating a gas-operated, semi-automatic, magnum-calibre pistol. Their first working prototype was created in 1981. Magnum Research contracted Israel Military Industries to refine the weapon, and a fully functional set of just over 1000 pistols was created. In 1985, the barrel was changed to support polygonal rifling, to assist accuracy. In 1986, a .44 Magnum version of the pistol was perfected.
Desert Eagles are restricted to sporting roles in real life, being impractical for military and law enforcement applications due to their hefty size and weight, high recoil and noise, and cost. However, they feature in many movies and games (this included) due to their fear factor and the fact that they are easily recognized.
