Ego
From wiki.soldat.nl
Every player has an ego. Most have an overwhelming ego, and a fierce necessity to maintain its image. Unfortunately, this leads to most flame wars, bickering and all that jazz. Here's a basic outline of the many manifestations the ego takes in the game of Soldat. Prime example is a certain player called LeeGo (At the moment, his nick is Rusakko) he seems to thrive off arguing and making shitty insults (calling you 100 lbs) he is the original prick, Changing his name every few weeks or so because he couldn't get a 3.0 ratio. He plays R/S and R/S/A, he has some sort of hate for Realistic players, but what he doesn't realise is that R/S and R/S/A all belongs to R, fucking tard..
[edit] Blatant Name Calling (Ad Hominem)
Perhaps the most common thing to hear on a Soldat server is the word "fag". Why? Mostly because people honestly have nothing better to say. The connotation between fag being a negative, and their negative disposition towards player x serves as an adequate conduit for name calling. Naturally, Sexual orientation has little effect on moral standards of gameplay or skill for that matter. Which causes one to wonder just why player x is called a fag when he just humiliated our name calling friend with a soccom? Clearly this is a case of the ego. The fact that player x has just killed the name caller with a soccom (which is higly effective in realistic mode) suggests that the name caller simply isn't up to snuff. Realizing this, at least subconstiously, the name caller seeks to even out the playing field by using slander.
[edit] HAXOR!
Most players don't think much when they play. They don't think about how to improve themselves and therefore don't, reaching a plateau of skill they will never breach in that mentality. It is with these people that when a better player comes along and has excellent aim, they yell "HAXOR!" Let us stage this in a realistic mode game, where our "Haxor" has a Ruger. Any good ruger player knows that elevation is key to winning. They need to shoot one headshot and move on otherwise they may be dead before the next shot flies, therefore, tactics are employed. One will often move very quickly towards another player, getting to a comfortable distance for a sure shot, sacrificing potential health loss for a sure kill. Also, waiting for the enemy player to run out of jets and quickly zoom up under them, firing when directly above their heads. The possibilities are endless. Unfortunately, most players simply cannot accept being bested, and will assume that another player of a higher calliber is winning through artificial means.
[edit] Missunderstanding Ruger spray
For some odd reason, players think one cannot spray with Ruger. Is it not an often employed tactic to spray in the general direction of an enemy player who just exited your screen so as to finish a kill? Why is this so wrong with a Ruger? Players fail to realize that Ruger users spray in that same fashion, but with fewer bullets, they rarely hit (No shit). It is when one of those odd bullets hit that players begin to yell "Haxor".
[edit] Sprayer!
If you can't follow the tracer shots back to the player and estimate his position, you simply aren't good enough. See HAXOR!
[edit] (Insert Weapon Name Here)tard
It baffles me to see this so often employed by the moderate players. Most people complain about M79tards, Barretards, and Rugertards. They do this mainly because they cannot use those same weapons well, and they are potential one hit killers. Unfortunately for them, these people are terrible at weapons balancing and don't realize the balance themselves. The M79 has short range (range of a thrown nade), if you can't kill them by the time they get within range, learn to play better. The Barrett has a huge reloading time, that's why they get to snipe. Use a decoy, sneak to within one screen of sniper so as to be out of his field of vision, then rush in and kill him. Rugertards are most often complained about because people think it is overpowered. What they don't realize aside from the 4 chances to hit with slow recoil, needing two headshots in normal, one in realistic, is that Rugers are susceptible to the lag hit bug. The lag hit bug is when the enemy's position is registered late due to latency. This means that when shooting directly at the player, the server will not necessarily register the hit because it registers the player somewhere else. Ultimately it means that there is a random chance that a ruger shot won't even count, leaving that wonderful recoil time and only 3 bullets left, against a fully automatic. Obviously, if one hit from the full auto doesn't register, the other 29 will.
There are other players who claim that using a Ruger etc. is simply too easy, and although this is obviously not a different line of thought, it does carry different psychological connotations. The players who think using these weapons is too "easy" often never even guage the skill level of whom they're playing against. Few realize that 3-5 bullets to the head of virtually any gun in realistic will result in death, not to mention damage incurred from other battles that lower that number significanlty.
The ego comes into play in the same way that the "HAXOR!" whiner does. Frustrated by their own inadequacies and a lack of perspective, players will downplay the skill of their opponents.
[edit] In Closing
So please, players of Soldat. Exercise humility occasionally. Stop to observe just what you're complaining about and see that in all probability, your ability to play, to balance weapons, and to observer and understand complex situations is really just sub par. So stop. And look.
