The M249 FN Minimi is a very powerful machine gun in Soldat, perfectly suited for defensive and offensive manoeuvres.
With its 50-round magazine the FN Minimi can last for a fair time before having to reload. A skilled user can be effective over long range. Unlike in previous versions whereby it had little movementacc and a heavy self-bink, the new Minimi had high movementacc and a much lower self-bink. As a result of that and the fact that bink overrides movement inaccuracy, the conventional tactic of firing in bursts with the Minimi no longer works, but the Minimi should be used accurately by shooting continuously over a longer period of time. Because of its relatively high reload time, users should either keep some distance between themselves and enemies while reloading, or counter with a secondary weapon and reload afterwards.

Fire at enemies at long range continuously, letting the small bink override the movement inaccuracy which actually makes the gun more accurate until the bink begins to grow too much. Never allow your ammo to run out in a hot zone; the baby is a bitch to reload. If you run out of ammo, switch to a secondary weapon while you find a secure place to reload at. The movement accuracy is slightly worse than that of the assault rifles, so the Minimi is a bit better in defense than offense.

The M249 SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon) is the United States military designation for a sub-family of the Minimi. Both are light machine guns chambered for the 5.56 x 45 mm NATO cartridge. It was originally manufactured by Fabrique Nationale (FN).
The Minimi is manufactured by Fabrique Nationale in Belgium, while the M249 is made by FNH USA, the American subsidiary of FN. The M249 was the winner of a competition carried out by the U.S. military in the late 1970s–early 1980s for a new squad automatic weapon. The Minimi has been adopted by many other countries since that time, especially among NATO members.
