Self-proclaimed the Master Waypointer of mapping, Keron Cyst joined the community during v1.2, just before it upgraded to v1.2.1, and has since waypointed innumerable Soldat maps throughout his forum activity and is a heavy critic in the mapping department.

He has worked with mappers ranging from the greats (Boxo, Demonic, grand_diablo, The Geologist, etc.) to the average and the below average, but he almost never waypoints a map upon request and works totally freestyle, usually only waypointing maps he judges are worth the effort due to his constantly super-constrained schedule. He virtually worships chakapoko maker (the creator of ctf_Snakebite, Bigfalls, inf_Moonshine, etc.) as the greatest of all Soldat mappers.

Most mappers give Cyst plenty of leeway regarding modification to the map, so he almost always adds more than just waypoints to it; spawn points may need to be revised for the waypoints to properly work, of course, but he also sometimes throws in, adjusts, or removes colliders and scenery graphics, locates and removes polybugs, stretches some polygons' textures, etc., even at one point changing the map's entire texture to enhance visuals. Whatever field the map lacks in, he usually attempts to fill, and hardly any mappers have restrained him from indulging in such small freedoms (thanks, guys!).

Cyst has made a few one-weapon mods for the game which he now, after ages of wisdom and knowledge, considers pieces of crap but which can nonetheless be found at his homepage. One is rumored to replace the Ruger and another to replace the LAW at SoldatMods, and he also has another LAW replacement as the M240B heavy machine gun. Supposedly he has been working very slowly, on & off, on a full Soldat mod since Aug. 2005 but is having second thoughts on statistical weapon-modding and gostek-modding (Raithii created the majority of its weapons' interface-gfx, but then he "got bored"). It appears that he has dropped the encumbering project.

[edit] Game Influence

His most notable influence directly in Soldat itself is in v1.3.1, where his waypointing of Boxo's officially recognized ctf_Dropdown2 and the new version of Bunker, 2.1 (where he stretched the top corner polygons' textures and rendered the rooftop icy, along with other tweaks) were applied.

[edit] HTF Philosophy

If you have just read the above text, Cyst knows you are thinking "Favorite Game Mode, HTF? What the heck's wrong with this guy?" Reread the line above, man! HTF is an amazing game mode; kudos to whoever thought of it. The maps all portray this terribly, tho', with stuff like htf_Mare being the worst of the bunch; it is not meant to be treated like a stalemate of a CTF, not at all!

I stated this word-for-word when I first observed the gamemode and its early criticism, and I shall declare it again: "HTF is a team-based, time version of PointMatch." That's ALL it is! It still needs the chaotic mayhem of regular DM, but so many maps are arranged in a CTF layout, where flag-stalemates constantly occur and thus make the mode boring very quickly, or an altogether weird style (think htf_Desert). Unfortunately, as appropriate DM maps would be for HTF, the HTF map pool cannot embody DM maps, since the waypoints in HTF are programmed CTF-style; bots would malfunction horribly (there is a fundamental difference in DM waypointing style and CTF, Inf., and HTF waypoints).

[edit] Moments

  • The M72 LAW is by far my best weapon. I recall one old event (old; this was when self-bink had yet to be introduced) where, as Alpha, I was able to blast apart a Minigunner on the top-eastern rock in ctf_Laos, off-screen, with a LAW rocket, by observing his bullets' spray pattern.
  • I still remember a time (also coincidentally as Alpha) when I snuck up behind a Bravo stat. gunner on ctf_Voland who most likely retardedly kept his cursor at the edge of the screen (never, never do that, folks) as I silently snuck up behind him and stabbed him with a Knife. Heh, heh.
  • At one time, I used to love, on Alpha team, camping just barely on the right side of the central hill (more at the peak, really) of ctf_Kampf with an M79 and a Barrett. The Barrett could be used to pick off enemies, and if any came too close, I used the M79 and rebounded its grenade against the terrain to hit any incoming soldaten while temporarily pulling away from the position. Once I even scored a triple-kill with a single, mid-air Barrett shot.
  • On ctf_Kampf, if the enemy stat. gun is being manned, I use the SPAS-12's short range to fire its pellets in such an arc that it injures (and eventually, if he's a blind n00b, kills) the gunner.
