Laming is a term used to describe the use of practices or playing styles considered unfair.

What exactly constitutes laming is often debated. Practices that are likely to be considered lame include:

• camping
• spraying (especially sniper-spraying)
• nadespamming
• spawnkilling
• minigunsurfing
• using overpowered weapons
• running
• teamkilling
• teamhurting, teambleeding
• flagstealing
• false votekicking
• hacking
• unbalancing

Lame also describes a player or a team using lame practices in order to secure a win.

A player who regularly plays in a lame fashion is sometimes called a lamer. Noob and noobing are often used as synonyms for lamer and being lame.

Also note that there probably is not a single primary weapon in Soldat that hasn't been called lame by some players.

Laming in gameplay

Laming is often considered as a hobby of the noobs and the unskillful. Laming, such as teamkilling, spawnkilling and flagstealing usually take the fun out of others' game and it irritates and frustrates other players. In some instances this is the main goal of the lamer: to provocate his victim into a brawl and ruin his or her gameplay for lamers own amusement. There are many various and creative ways to lame in public servers but the most fruitful laming prospects are provided in servers with friendly fire or realistic mode on.

Laming is pretty much bound to ctf because it has a clear goal(capture the flag), requires lot of teamwork(especially on ff servers) and these two aims can be easily crushed by one single flawed gear.

Laming can be divided into four basic categories:

• Laming the game of the opposing team
• Laming the game of your own team
• Laming an individual's game(hunting)
• Laming everyone's game(hacking)

The Truth

Although practices that are considered laming see widespread use, it is very important to note that every tactics based laming, i.e. camping, spraying, can be countered by an advanced player. Both sprayers and campers can be lawed, sneaked upon, and sniped. There is a good reason why teams involve many people with different capabilities. The highest form of laming is complaining.

Normal Ctf

Laming in ctf with normal mode can be done in many ways:

Spawnkilling

Spawnkilling is usually frowned upon although almost everyone does it in maps where the spawning point is near the team's flag. It is just that if you overdo it you'll get yelled at. Spawnkilling is easiest with grenades, chainsaw and one-hit weapons such as barrett or m79. Camping near the spawnpoint is usually a good way to enrage others because it is sort of a combo laming. Ctf_Voland and Ctf_Ash are common spawnkill maps. There’s a good spawnkilling point in for the red team in Ctf_Laos where you can shoot blindshots into the blue spawningpoint

Camping

Camping is a way of gaming to other and a way of laming to another. Usually the new players tend to camp as they lack skill for other weapons and camping provides them with easy kills. Camping is usually done with barrett and with its sniper feature you can snipe the opposing player from 1-2 screen away. This basically obsoletes any weapon they're carrying because they don't have the time to use them. Camping can also be used in spawnkilling and "spraying": you can shoot blind shots, "blinds" into the direction where you think the enemy is coming.

Note however that there are a limited amount of places to hide in a given map. Any experienced player should be checking corners and boxes with the mouse pointer or tester shots(to see if blood comes out.)

Spraying

Spraying is mainly done with auto's. You can shoot into the opposing team’s spawnpoint and run to safety behind obstacles and walls when you want to reload. The most effective way of lame spraying is holding your ground in the mid of the map and firing into narrow points where the enemy is believed to come(Ctf_Laos, Ctf_Kampf). When the enemy is coming towards you retreat back your base while firing, reload, collect possible medikits and finally finish off the weakened opponent who is probably reloading at the moment. Repeat after done.

The more frequently you survive from these encounters the more irritated your opponents will be. In some occasions they may start hunting you instead of running for the flag.

Note however that spraying (like any shooting) produces tracers shots. Any experienced player can easily follow the arc of tracer shots back to the origin and take out the sprayer from beyond the sprayers range.

Leeching

Leecher is player who sticks close to friendly flag carrier in order to snatch the flag when the FFC dies. This doesn't usually annoy anybody else except the flag carrier. Irritating the FFC is an essential part of leeching: FFC can be shot or thrown at with grenades to boost him or to bink his weapon.

Unbalancing

It will always happen now and again that several players leave the game, so the teams are unbalanced more than necessary, for example like 6 vs 4 or even 7 vs 4. In either case, just one player switching teams would restore the balance. However, just the act of not switching should not be considered laming. However, seizing these grossly unbalanced teams as an opportunity to cap 'is' lame. Cool players will either switch to restore balance or at least stop pushing until it is restored. Lame players will cap as often as they can during the unbalanced phase. As opposed to camping or spraying, this cannot be considered "a valid tactic", because it is simply unfair and proves that those players have no sense of fairness or sporting spirit whatsoever.

Ctf with friendlyfire

If the friendly fire is on, it validates the following laming methods:

Teamkilling

Your a teamkiller when you kill your teammate just because you felt like doing so. Random teamkilling gets tiresome pretty soon so it is better to take just a victim or two to see if they react to it. It is also recommended because of the votekicking: you can't afford to have all your teammembers against you. That is why you'll have to make it look like your victim is the real teamkiller. Every time you kill him, even if it looks so intended and planned teamkill, say "Sorry/Sry" or "Whoops" out loud in the chat. If he tries to vote you out, just say "F11, he's a stinking liar and a tk". When possible, try to votekick him out and say "F12" in the chat. If he teamkills you for revenge just yell in the chat “Omfg tk! Some1 kick *NAME* plz.” etc.

Flagstealing

Flagthief is the single most annoying thing that a newbie or a pro can encounter. After one of your teammembers captures the enemy flag either follow him as an "escort" or camp in your own base and just before he is capping the flag, kill him and cap the flag yourself. Then you can continue playing as if nothing had ever happened or just say "Sry". This is especially enraging tactic in infiltration where the capping is harder than in ctf.

If the ff server has a teamkill punishment system you can use your remaining "tks" for flagstealing(for maximum yield of laming) and then use the following methods to lame the game even more:

Teamhurting/Teambleeding

If you see any other player coming near his maximum tks before automatic serverkick(for example 3/5, 4/5) you can start provocating him into shooting yourself by teambleeding him. You take a weapon with low bulletdamage, automatic or socom, and wound him until he is almost dead. If he shoots you dead he will get eventually killed or kicked by the server.

Blocking & Stomping

Used for getting other players kicked by the anti-teamkill system. You can block your teammates line of fire by going between him and the enemy. This is a suicide tactic, yes, but it works nonetheless. Especially barrett campers are prone to this kind of blocking because of their sniper ability: they can see far but can't look near at the same time. You should block the barrettcamper when you hear him going into a sniper mode(the little noise made by the scope when looking further). Blocking is generally useful against stationary campers and sprayers.

Stomping is an old tactic originally used by Iranian children in Iran-Iraq war to clear the minefields. When you do stomping you intentionally jump onto your teammates' grenades, killing yourself and increasing their tk rate at the same time.

Other servertypes

Realistic servers with no friendlyfire and survival servers are eligible for laming in their own unique way:

Realistic, no ff

You can practice teamkilling and flagstealing in realistic server without ff too. You can kill others with m79 and nades by boosting your teammembers to the ground so hard that the fall damage kills them. Because they died of “falling”, server will register the death as a selfkill so it is easy to fend off the blames regarding teamkilling and flagstealing:

• I’m no tk, u selfkilled
• FF ain’t on :/

Survival

There is one thing the ctf survival players hate the most: capping. This is a quite perverted conception because in ctf you should aim for the cap. If you’re fast enough you might get caps in 20 – 60 seconds and end the game quickly. If they accuse you of running just say “This is ctf ffs. Caps are the goal, not camping.” Albeit true you usually end up getting votekicked by survival veterans. Fortunately you can play and lame by their unwritten rules as well. Get the flag, kill everyone else from the server except one enemy player. Then just run away from him and hold the flag as long as possible. Don’t shoot the enemy player, just evade him, and do not cap. You can flame the dead players via chat:

• Now this is fun isn’t it?
• I wonder when the next round begins?
• Is this HTF server?

Miscellaneous

Nickname(s)

Never ever use your original nick or the nick you don't want to get slandered. It’s also a good move to change your nick and your soldiers appearance frequently enough so you wont be recognized and exposed to votekicking too early.

You might want to take a nick that is provocative, lewd and annoying itself:

• I own you all
• Rough Analsex(You were killed by Rough Analsex)
• I’m a Polish Whore

“Major” is usually pretty good nick because there are plenty of them and it hurts one's ego quite a bit if a “Major” teamkills him and steals his flag. Just remember to dress your soldier as custom Major.

Taunts

Taunts can be used for irritating the opponent by using them when you kill him or steal his flag. Taunts get old and unfunny pretty fast and you might piss off everyone with your spamming and increase your votekickicking odds. Therefore it is advised to respond individually to your opponents different complaints and whines. You might want to use the caps lock for a more noobish and irritating appearance but same as above it might piss off everyone.

You can match your taunts with your nick(s):

• Major owns you all!
• Raped by Anal Rapist!
• You just bended over to Big Bubba!

Votekicking

Votekicking is pretty much useless in large servers where the votepercent is high to prevent false votekicks. But even though getting kickbanned seems unlikely it is still to be reckoned with. Therefore if anyone accuses you of teamkilling, spawning, flagstealing etc. just say “I haven’t done anything, you lie” and keep it going and then try to votekick him for similar reasons. If he gets to cast votekick first say “F11”, if you, say “F12”.

Keep casting votekicks all the time and eventually your opponent will get kick-ban: persistent always triumph. Remember to add “F12” into every vote you cast and give the kicking most outrageous reasons:

• Hacker F12 plz
• TK & hack f12 all
• Airman-hack & flagsteal f12

As the time passes you might even give the most absurd reasons for kicking:

• He has HIV f12
• Disgrace to mankind
• Touched my penis f12
• Let’s be friends :) f12

As unlikely as it sounds, some people have got kick-ban out of these kind of “reasons” just because people grew weary of what button they should push.

When kickbanning others it is useful to scout other players’ ethnic background. For example if there are many Poles[PL], Finns[Fin] or Germans [Ger] in the server you might consider twice before typing out a racial slur as a kicking reason. On the contrary, you can persuade others to see things your way by merely cursing your adversary out loud in their language:

• Ciota, huju, pedal hacker
• Vitun homo camp
• Scheisse, Blödes arschloch teamkill

Now who wouldn’t help a fellow countryman?

Hacking

No comment. Lets just say that you might want to try it out in climbing servers.

Other

• If you want to mess with someone in the soldat community, steal his nick and go lame in the public.
• If you have admins to a server don’t be afraid to use them. If you don't, you can however gain them if you pretend to be admin's familiar. For example, if you know admin has a friend which name is "Ice", take his nick and dress your soldier as "Ice" and hit the server with your new identity. If the admin is present ask him to admin you. This, as expected, doesn't work on clever ones.
• Creativity is a bliss.
• Beware and be aware of the server admins. If you have a variable IP you can risk kicking.
