Movement
From wiki.soldat.nl
Correct movement is crucial in Soldat. Unlike many other games, the character's movement speed in Soldat can vary greatly while playing, depending on the surroundings, and agility of the player. With the help of good timing and quick reflexes, one can move and dodge projectiles more efficiently.

[edit] Keys
The default controls for moving are:
- W Jump (up)
- A Move left
- S Crouch (duck)
- D Move right
- Right-mouse button Fly (use jet boots)
[edit] Gaining speed
Combining jumping with moving left or right—that is, leaping—will enable you to horizontally travel much faster. Jet to avoid obstacles that might slow you down. Even using jet boots at intervals when there are no obstacles will result in a slightly increased speed. Upward slopes at certain angles can provide great boosts if you rapidly press the jump button while climbing them.
'Nadejumping and M79 jumping also help in gaining speed. Please look at the Advanced guide for more information.
[edit] Gaining height
To gain height, it is best to jump followed by jetting. Jumping will give you a good starting speed which would take a lot of jetting to achieve. Look for upward slopes that might give you a little extra push while you jump. The greatest height to jets used ratio can be achieved by jetting immediately after you jump. It can be important to conserve jet like this on maps with very little jets.
'Nadejumping and M79 jumping also help in gaining height. Please look at the Advanced guide for more information.
[edit] Rolling
Rolling is done by running forward (default "A" or "D"), and then pressing the crouch key (default "S"). In most cases, rolling should be avoided as you are unable to shoot nor reload while doing so, although can provide a short boost in horizontal movement if rolling off edges of ground.
[edit] Backflip
Backflipping is done by running backwards (the opposite direction you are facing), then leaping backwards followed by flying. This trick can help you dodge bullets and gain speed on slopes or possibly more height at a more diagonal angle than regular jump-jet movement. Please look at the Advanced guide for more information.
[edit] "Superman"
When one goes prone in mid-air and uses the jets, one's soldat will fly down and forward at a faster rate than gravity alone and the movement keys would. The prone position also decreases the amount of exposed area for bullets flying horizontally. One can also shoot and reload while in this position (although is a sitting duck on the ground if one hasn't unproned by then).
[edit] Diving
Diving is done by gaining speed (see above), leaping forward and going prone in mid-air, and using the jets. When done correctly, the soldat will be able to move a short distance very quickly. This is used by Chainsaw users to obtain greater reach very quickly, reminiscent of the Halo 2 Covenant Energy Sword strike technique. When weaponless, this move can be used to disarm the enemy.
