Spraying
From wiki.soldat.nl
Spraying has a broad definition. It can be interpreted in many ways. Classic definitions are:
- Firing continuously with a weapon in the assumed or unassumed direction of the enemy.
- Firing continuously with a weapon with the purpose of holding someone stuck and unable to move, without sustaining damage.
- Using the push effect of a fast-firing weapon with the intention of maintaining the distance between you and the enemy(s).
- Elevating oneself upwards and moving backwards, especially in a defensive situation, to prevent the enemy from attacking oneself or advancing.
Spraying is most effective in maps with open and flat terrain so there is no room for the enemy to hide or suddenly change direction or speed. This is why maps such as ctf_Viet, ctf_Snakebite, and ctf_B2b are often dubbed "spray-maps." "Spray and pray" is a famous quote.
Spraying is often considered lame as it requires not much skill in it's simpler forms. Since version 1.2, spraying has become essential due to the changed weapon balance. However, since version 1.3 self-bink was added to make spraying harder, and projectiles' damage was coded to decrease over overall distance, which is why spraying is not as effective as it once was.
