The XM214 Minigun, usually just called the Minigun, is mainly a support weapon. It can be used to repel enemies and is deadly in singleplayer, but in multiplayer, lag reduces its bullets' effectiveness. The Minigun can also be used to minisurf, which involves pointing the Minigun in the direction opposite from the direction of the desired area to reach. This weapon is mostly looked down upon, because it generates much lag for servers and is annoying to most players because of its spray.

The XM214 Microgun was designed by the US Military, but was heavy and impractical to use. Most miniguns are found on helicopters, and are used for gunning down light infantry. Miniguns were also used to take out airplanes that moved too fast for conventional machine guns. With a 10,000 RPM maximum rate of fire, the XM214 Minigun is one of the fastest firing weapons around, though it is impossible to wield.

Contary to popular belief and the Soldat manual, the minigun in the movie Predator was the larger M134, not the XM214. The M134 can be distinguished by four barrel clamps versus two for the XM214. In addition, the assembled barrels of the XM214 present a more tapered profile than those of the M134.

Surfing is used to increase your speed when running away from an opponent.

Spraying is firing all 100 rounds at where you think an opponent is.

The real-life minigun can't easily be carried even by two people, let alone one (to be specific, that one guy in Predator). It is in fact sometimes mounted on vehicles, usually helicopters.
